OUR APPROACH

FINDING THE BEAUTY IN SIMPLICITY

We strive to challenge the status quo in our industry to come up with simpler, better ways to design and build urban spaces. We create spaces inspired by simplicity, informed by purposeful design, and perfectly in sync with the millions of ways people experience life in the city.

OUR VISION

URBAN LIVING YOU CAN AFFORD. URBAN LIFE YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO MISS.

At their very core, urban spaces are meant to be accessible - from public transit, to parks and paths, to day and night activities, to food and the arts. Where you live should reflect how you live; it should support and enable uniquely urban interactions and experiences, no matter your budget.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe every room and every space in a home must have purpose.

We believe you are at your best in an intentional home.

We believe in attaining net zero and will fight for it. We believe that our footprint on the earth matters. We believe in coexisting with each other and our planet. We believe in what we build, and who we build it for.

Brian is a licensed architect and one-time Team USA Olympic Snowboarding hopeful (true story!). Trading snowy slopes for structural ones, Brian joined forces with Elizabeth in 2008 to found Colorado’s Raw Architecture, a firm with a focus on residential, commercial and mixed-use design. He further drew on his interests and expertise - as well as his BA in Structural Engineering and his MA in Architecture - when he launched development company Castle West Properties in 2010.

As a developer passionate about buildings with honest materials, Brian is uniquely equipped to streamline processes and creatively navigate market conditions. In his downtime, Brian can be found exploring Denver’s amazing culinary scene, or exploring Italy - and Italian wines.

New York native Elizabeth, a licensed architect with NCARB certification plus a BA in Architecture, has an abiding love for the fusion of ancient craft and modern aesthetic. In fact, Elizabeth has an appreciation for all things paradoxical: the imperfect elegance of wabi-sabi design, the complex simplicity of a perfectly mixed martini, or the opposing harmony of laughing until she cries.

In 2008 she teamed up with Brian Higgins to launch Raw Architecture, an award-winning Colorado firm, where she grew her passions for multi-family and historic preservation, as well as her expertise in interior design. In tribute to her love of making lists, here are some of Elizabeth’s other passions (in no particular order): traveling, Kempo (she’s a black belt), learning and speaking Italian, bodies of water, cold clean air, and silence.

Charlotte holds a BA in both Architecture and Psychology, as well as a Real Estate Broker’s license, and is genuinely baffled by people whose favorite room isn’t the kitchen. Charlotte left her career in finance to pursue her dreams of running her own business and - being the whizkid that she is - took a mere 2 years to launch and sell a successful business before starting her second one, About an Idea, in 2013.

As someone who appreciates the seamless integration of historic and modern architecture, it’s no wonder her favorite building in Denver is Union Station, where she says ‘the blend of new design that still honors the historic beauty is executed as close to perfectly as one could hope.’ Outside of work, Charlotte spends time in coffee shops, ‘reading’ (aka people watching) or playing incredibly nerdy board games she’ll be embarrassed made it into this bio.
